The place to visit for
a new look at life!

Welcome to Anita's Kitchen Corner

It's now been a year since Dan and I threw in the towel and gave up our full-time jobs.  Life has really changed, but instead of the laid-back life we expected, we seem to be busier than we were before.  As we have adjusted to living in our 40-foot fifth wheel trailer, and found it to be a fairly cozy little home, we also find that we spend more time out seeing the country around us.  Since the "workcamping" part of our lives only takes approximately 20 hours of our time each week, we have a lot of time to play tourists.  We began this new lifestyle in March of 2008, and we are really enjoying seeing country we haven't seen before and learning how to live in a much smaller home.  So far we have loved almost every minute of it.  As with everyone's life, we have had our share of moments of wondering if we made the right decision.  Like the night in Kansas when a tornado came through the state park where we were and tipped over the fifth wheel of one of our fellow workcampers.  Luckily no one was hurt, but it didn't take much to put everyone on edge when a storm moved in after that.  It has been quite an education, I must admit.

After spending the summer months in Lawrence, Kansas, at the Clinton State Park, we have moved our little "home on wheels" to the deep south of Texas.   We are now settled in the Rio Grand Valley in the town of Pharr, Texas.  We came from an area of rolling hills, lakes and trees to a mostly flat area with very few lakes.  We do have trees though - we are nestled in a citrus grove here at the rv resort where we are passing the winter.  We have a grapefruit tree and an orange tree right outside our front door.  Work this time is somewhat different from manning the entrance gate at the state park too.  I spend my time in the office of the Tropic Star RV Resort making reservations, checking the residents in when they arrive and helping them get settled in.  Dan is helping out at the entrance gate when they need someone to fill in.  Plus, he is driving the tour bus when they need a driver.   And once again we are having a lot of fun playing tourists on the days that we are not working.  We have taken little trips on days that we weren't working and gone to South Padre Island, Brownsville, Port Isabel, and even made one trip into Progresso, Mexico, to check it out.

We are keeping the cameras handy and are trying to take lots of interesting photos to document our new life.  These can be viewed at another website I have set up for now.  To get there, follow the link: www.workcampers2.smugmug.com

There are several galleries with photos of our exploits.  I hope you enjoy them.
